Job summary

Town of Cary is seeking a skilled Utility Systems Maintenance Mechanic to support the wastewater system. You’ll inspect, maintain, and repair pumps and equipment at remote stations, with electrical and electronic system responsibilities.

The role includes rotating weekend duty and joining a collaborative team serving the Cary community. Anticipated hiring range is $56,867.20–$69,867.20; highly qualified candidates with extensive relevant experience may be considered for higher salaries.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
• Grade I+ Wastewater Certification or ability to earn within 1 year.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• Experience in repair/maintenance of water or wastewater pumping equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inspects pumping stations and related equipment and facilities for proper operations.
• Performs preventive maintenance such as bearings, gear boxes, pumps, valves and checks amp readings.
• Overhauls wastewater pumping machinery and equipment.
• Applies chemicals to treat sewers for odor control; operates odor control equipment.
• Troubleshoots electrical/mechanical problems and collaborates with others as needed.
• Performs electrical/electronic repair and installation work.
• Cleans and overhauls pumps, motors and related equipment.
• Maintains and repairs emergency generators; debugs and maintains SCADA/alarms.
• Maintains records and completes work orders; operates heavy equipment when required.
