Job summary

City of Norfolk is seeking a Utility Maintenance Supervisor for the Wastewater Division. The role supervises crews responsible for installation, repair, and maintenance of wastewater infrastructure, ensuring safety compliance and assisting customers.

Responsibilities include scheduling, budgeting support, and coordinating with engineers. The position requires a Class A CDL and may involve after-hours response to emergencies.

Qualifications

• Four years of high school or equivalent knowledge.
• More than four years of utility maintenance/repair/construction experience.
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License is required.
• Additional training/certification may be required within six months.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and schedule crews for cleaning sanitary sewer mains, laterals, and maintenance of sewer cleaning equipment and vehicles.
• Operate and maintain sewer cleaning equipment (water jet trucks, vacuum trucks, etc.) and read sewer asset drawings.
• Schedule and supervise work, inspect materials, document progress and productivity, and manage costs.
• Ensure OSHA safety compliance and conduct safety inspections on worksites.
• Assist customers with wastewater concerns and participate in budget development and cost estimation.
• Respond to emergencies by leading sanitary sewer emergency response teams.
