Job summary

Franklin County is seeking a dedicated Utilities Maintenance Worker to support the wastewater and water systems. This role involves semi-skilled to skilled tasks, operating equipment, and performing maintenance across treatment plants, lift stations, and distribution lines.

The position requires physical effort and adherence to safety standards in varied outdoor environments. Employees may be exposed to hazards; on-call duties and weekly callbacks are part of the job.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of common tools, materials and equipment used in construction and maintenance of water and sewer lines and lift stations.
• Ability to read maps and operation/service manuals and understand basic to journey level trades.
• Knowledge of safe work practices around water, sewer utilities and construction hazards.
• Experience with basic trades such as welding, carpentry, or electrical work is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assists in laying, repairing and replacing water and sewer pipes and maintaining wastewater lines and manholes.
• Maintains equipment at water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations and lift stations.
• Performs preventive maintenance on booster stations, lift stations and treatment plant equipment.
• Makes taps into water lines for customers and repairs breaks/leaks in main lines, taps and meters.
• Flushing fire hydrants and dead-end lines.
• Reads water meters for billing and handles rereads as needed.
• Operates light to moderately heavy equipment and conducts basic repairs.
• On-call and call-back on a weekly rotation.
