Job summary

City of Statesville (NC) is seeking a Wastewater Control Operator Trainee/Relief Operator for the 4th Creek WWTP, with a path toward a certified operator role. The position offers a full-time schedule, with training across plant operations.

Typical schedule is Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, with potential on-call responsibilities and disaster response as needed. A valid NC driver’s license and eventual operator certifications are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Ability to obtain Wastewater Operator I within 1 year.
• Ability to obtain Wastewater Operator II within 2 years.
• State of NC Wastewater Operator II certification required to remain employed.

Responsibilities

• Learn to operate and maintain all aspects of the wastewater treatment facility under supervision and guidance.
• Participate in on-the-job tasks, courses, and reading to learn fundamentals of wastewater treatment.
• Make adjustments to ensure compliance with rules, regulations, and SOPs.
• Perform minor repairs and assist with major maintenance tasks as needed.
• Take readings and measurements, collect samples, and maintain records of plant operations.
• Perform basic physical and chemical analyses to monitor treatment efficiency.
• Inform Lead Operator of problems and proceed with corrective actions as instructed.
• Adhere to safety precautions and procedures for all tasks.
• Assist in grounds and building maintenance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
