Job summary

Hawaii Water Service is seeking a Utility Operator to perform field operations and maintenance in the wastewater system under supervision. The role requires independent judgment, strong safety awareness, and the ability to work after hours and weekends.

You will inspect facilities, collect samples, read meters, and assist with repairs at treatment plants and pump stations, while maintaining thorough records and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of operation, maintenance and repair of pumps, pump controls and related equipment.
• Knowledge of water and wastewater systems and their safety requirements.
• Familiarity with safety regulations and work-site safety practices.
• Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Perform general cleaning and upkeep of grounds and facilities.
• Inspect services and facilities and respond to complaints or work orders.
• Flushes and services mains, collection lines and manholes; collect wastewater samples.
• Read meters, assist with repairs at treatment plants and pump stations.
• Complete paperwork and support after-hours emergency repairs.
• Work in confined spaces and lift heavy items as required.
