Job summary

County of Hawai’i’s Wastewater Division in Hilo seeks a seasoned supervisor to plan, direct, and coordinate operations across wastewater facilities, pump stations, and systems within an assigned district. You will collaborate with engineers, review designs, and drive efficiency and safety programs.

The role requires five years in wastewater operations with three in supervision, plus a Grade IV operator certificate and a valid Hawaii driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school.
• Five (5) years of work experience in the operations, construction, or repair and maintenance of wastewater systems and facilities, of which three (3) years shall have been in a supervisory capacity.
• Possession of a current Hawaiʻi Mandatory Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate, Grade IV at time of filing (scan and attach a copy of your current certificate to your application).
• Possession of a valid State of Hawaiʻi driver's license (Class 3) at time of filing.

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, coordinate, and review the work of subordinates involved in the operation of wastewater facilities and equipment.
• Review and interpret plans and designs prepared by engineers and contractors; evaluate and recommend improvements to work practices and procedures.
• Develop and conduct training and safety programs; maintain records and prepare reports and budget estimates.
• Oversee purchasing processes, requisitions, and expenditure control; participate in budget development.
• Coordinate with engineers and contractors on design, operation, maintenance, and new construction of wastewater equipment, facilities, and systems.
• Hire, promote, transfer, and discipline personnel; conduct performance reviews and new hire orientations; address grievances and investigations.
