Job summary

City of Sweetwater (TX) is seeking an entry-level Wastewater Treatment Plant Trainee to learn sampling, analysis, and plant process control under supervision.

Responsibilities include keeping lab records, assisting with minor repairs, maintenance, and on-call after hours; regular attendance is required. Requirements include High School Diploma or GED and licensure progression toward D and C Wastewater Licenses with a Texas driver’s license.

Job description

Under immediate supervision of a licensed operator or general supervision to perform activities pertaining to the operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). This position is an entry level trainee position and the position focuses on learning and understanding how to collect and analyze wastewater samples,chemical analysis, electronic and manual recordkeeping, as well as the treatment plant process control activities to produce a wastewater effluent compliant with State of Texas and Federal Regulations.Train on the operation of the irrigation pivot system at the farm and do general upkeep of the farm area. Monitors all basin levels, gauges, pumps, motors, grounds, and other related facilities. This includes walking through and around the plant to check all levels, tank levels.

Keep all records of lab results, temperature, flow, and any other operational data. Must be able to run these tests and understand the value of each.

Learn the proper procedures and approved methods by TCEQ for maintaining and operating an extended aeration Wastewater Treatment plant.

Keeps assigned cleaning areas completely clean and orderly at all times. Mop, dust, empty trash, etc.

Learns to maintain plant records, including operations logs, daily diaries, and chemical inventories; compiles both paper and electronic copies of reports as required by department policy.

Reports any problems to the supervisor in charge immediately.

Assists in performing minor repairs, operations adjustments, and preventive maintenance on plant equipment as needed.

Performs grounds maintenance and housekeeping duties as needed.

Be available for on call after hours work to respond to emergencies as needed.

Must be regular in attendance.

Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

High School Diploma or GED is required.

Ability to obtain a D Wastewater License issued by TCEQ within 12 months and obtain a C Wastewater Treatment License within 24 months of hire date.

License or Certificate:

A valid Texas Driver’s License is required.This is an entry level position; previous experience is not required. Extensive training will be provided within the first year of employment.
