Job summary

Nexus Water Group in Mabank, TX is hiring a field technician for water and wastewater sampling, monitoring, and maintenance. You'll assist with plant equipment, operate belt presses, and support repairs under supervision.

A valid Texas driver’s license is required, with growth into operator roles supported by training. No prior experience required; on-the-job training and certifications are provided with time.

Qualifications

• Requires knowledge normally acquired through a high school diploma or GED plus basic water/wastewater process knowledge.
• No directly related experience required; one to two years is a plus.
• Must obtain Texas D Water/Wastewater certification within 12 months and Class C Ground Water certification within 3 years.

Responsibilities

• Collects samples and performs routine monitoring and testing of water and wastewater.
• Assists with maintenance duties and general housekeeping at facilities.
• Operates belt press and assists with line repairs and new installations as directed.
• Responds to customer service calls and completes paperwork promptly.
• Work may require irregular hours, weekends, and on-call shifts.

Overview

Collects samples and performs routine monitoring and testing of water and wastewater, collects samples for testing, including effluent samples, flows, and settable solids. Assists with general maintenance duties at facilities; washes down thickener, digester basin, and walkway; washes down aeration basin wall and walkway; checks and washes down bar screen and strainer; cleans clarifiers; dumps and cleans scum basin; operation of belt press; cleans office area and rest rooms.

What You'll Do:

• Collects samples and performs routine monitoring and testing of water and wastewater, collects samples for testing, including effluent samples, flows, settable solids
• Calibrates and logs ph meter and D.O. meter; checks chlorine residuals.
• Assists with general maintenance duties at facilities; washes down thickener, digester basin, and walkway; washes down aeration basin wall and walkway; checks and washes down bar screen and strainer; cleans clarifiers; dumps and cleans scum basin; operation of belt press; cleans office area and rest rooms.
• Assists with general housekeeping and grounds maintenance.
• Performs Operator duties under direct supervision of a certified operator to gain experience to qualify for an operator certification.
• Assists with water and wastewater line repairs, new line installation, other work as directed.
• Respond to and investigate customer service calls.
• Completes necessary paperwork in timely manner.
• Job may require occasional irregular hours, shift work, working weekends, and being on-call.
• Other duties and projects as assigned by the Field Office Supervisor

What You'll Bring:

Education: Requires knowledge normally acquired through attainment of a high school diploma or GED plus skills and technical knowledge of water and wastewater treatment attained by some specialized courses or on-the-job training is advantageous.

Experience: Requires no directly related experience in water and/or wastewater system operations, maintenance, customer service, and prefer experience operating back-hoe and/or track-hoe equipment. One to two years of related experience is a plus.

Certificates & Licenses: The applicant must obtain a class D Water and/or D Wastewater Certification issued by the TCEQ within 12 months of accepting the position. Applicant must also obtain a class C Ground Water and Wastewater Certification issued by the TCEQ within 3 years of accepting the position.

Drivers License: Valid Texas drivers license

Work Environment:

This position is primarily field-based and requires regular travel between water and wastewater systems, treatment plants, facilities, and other company locations. A significant porton of the workday is outdoors and may be exposed to varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, humidity, and direct sunlight.
