Job summary

The City of Victoria seeks a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to operate and monitor municipal wastewater facilities. You will collect samples, run lab tests, maintain records, and ensure safe, compliant plant operations across sites.

Responsibilities include SCADA monitoring, data analysis, reporting, and cooperation with staff and the public. Qualifications include a high school diploma, TX CDL, and a Class C wastewater operator cert; 3 years’ experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Class B CDL within six months of hire.
• Class C Wastewater Operator certification.
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations including TCEQ.
• Familiarity with safety policies, procedures, and PPE.
• Experience in records maintenance and retention.
• Ability to read gauges, meters, and reports accurately.
• SCADA software experience.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Responsibilities

• Collect process control samples from the plant and perform tests including temperature and pH.
• Monitor SCADA systems and flow measurements.
• Inspect equipment for proper operation and report maintenance tasks.
• Operate sludge press and manage sludge disposal; drive dump trucks to compost site.
• Collect and analyze lab data and maintain plant records and reports.
• Attend training and safety meetings and prepare reports timely.
• Perform related duties as required.

Job description

Under general supervision, the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator performs a variety of duties in the operation of the City’s wastewater treatment plants to ensure an adequate supply of clean and safe water.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Checks the status of both wastewater plants and makes process adjustments as needed.
• Collects process control samples from the throughout the plant; performs various tests to include temperature and pH levels in the lab; handles procedures related to sample collection.
• Monitors SCADA systems.
• Collects flow measurements from pump equipment and flow meters.
• Conducts inspections of all equipment to ensure proper operation; completes or reports repair and maintenance tasks as appropriate.
• Operates sludge press and makes adjustments to ensure proper sludge disposal; runs sludge tests to achieve acceptable sludge dryness; drives dump trucks to compost site.
• Collects and analyzes lab data and enters into databases; maintains plant records and produces reports as needed.
• Attends and participates in training and safety meetings as required.
• Prepare reports accurately and timely.
• Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Work is performed throughout the city at utility treatment facilities and requires exposure to potentially dangerous tools, equipment, and machinery, hazardous chemicals, and infectious diseases.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Valid Texas Driver’s License
• Three (3) years of wastewater treatment operation experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Must possess a valid Class B Commercial driver’s license within six (6) months of hire.
• Must possess a Class C Wastewater Operator certification.
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and TCEQ standards related to wastewater systems.
• Familiarity with work safety policies, procedures, and PPE use.
• Experience in records maintenance and retention.
• Reading and accurately interpreting gauges, meters, chemical reports, manuals, and other devices.
• Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) software.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with staff, agencies, and the public.
• Effective organization, prioritization, and deadline management.
• Ability to follow instructions and maintain professional relationships.
