Job summary

City of Goldsboro is seeking a wastewater plant operator to perform semiskilled work operating the facility, including laboratory and maintenance duties. Work occurs on rotating shifts and may require being called back to ensure safe wastewater treatment and discharge of waste materials.

The role involves monitoring plant operation, recording data, performing lab tests, and assisting with plant and facilities maintenance.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED with coursework in Chemistry or Biology equivalent to one year of college.
• One year of experience operating and maintaining machinery, preferably in a wastewater treatment plant.
• Equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Responsibilities

• Makes regular tours of plant and checks equipment for proper functioning.
• Records data from meters and logs daily, weekly and monthly.
• Performs standard laboratory chemical and biological tests.
• Performs general preventive and scheduled maintenance; assists on major repairs.
• Regulates and adjusts motors, pumps, and other apparatus to changing conditions.
