Job summary

City of Houston is seeking a qualified individual for the Water Operations Technician Trainee in Houston. This on-site role supports the Water and Wastewater Operations/Lift Stations division, with a Monday–Friday schedule from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Duties include inspections, preventive and corrective maintenance of pumps, motors, valves and related equipment, data collection, and service calls. A high school diploma or GED and a valid Texas driver’s license are required; prior mechanical

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.
One year of experience as a Houston Water Operations Technician Trainee or 18 months in building or mechanical maintenance.
One year of related college or vocational education may substitute for up to one year of work experience.
Requires a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with City of Houston driving policy.
Preference given to applicants with plant or lift station maintenance experience and to eligible veterans.

Responsibilities

Perform inspections, preventive and corrective maintenance of water/wastewater systems and facilities.
Repair pumps, motors, blowers, valves, lines at lift/pump stations and related equipment.
Collect and catalog data on installed equipment and document service calls.
Make service calls to maintain and install equipment identification tags.
Report unsafe conditions and keep records of maintenance work.
