Job summary

The City of Richmond is seeking a dedicated Utility Plant Specialist to join the Wastewater division of the Department of Public Utilities. You will be responsible for maintaining industrial mechanical equipment, especially pumps and CSO regulators, across Shockoe facilities.

This essential role supports operations and safety while coordinating with staff and contractors. Candidates should be prepared for an 8-hour or 12-hour rotating shift with overtime, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• No experience required; two years of related experience preferred.
• Zone II/III/IV experience progression may apply.
• Equivalent combination of training and experience may be accepted.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and specialized maintenance across plant areas.
• Lead workers and generate routine reports; maintain records.
• Conduct safety inspections of vehicles and equipment.
• Order supplies, inspect contractors, and interact with citizens.
• Troubleshoot and perform preventive maintenance in wastewater facilities.
• Respond to routine and emergency calls at pumping stations.
