Job summary

City of Burlington NC is seeking an experienced wastewater plant operator to oversee operation and maintenance of the EBWWTP. The role includes hourly rounds, testing, sampling, documentation, troubleshooting, and reporting to the Wastewater Plant Superintendent.

The candidate should have 5+ years in wastewater treatment, a NC Grade III certification (Grade IV preferred), a valid NC driver's license, and First Aid/CPR.

Qualifications

• Minimum five (5) years experience in wastewater treatment.
• Valid North Carolina Driver's License.
• North Carolina Grade III Wastewater Certificate; Grade IV preferred.
• First Aid and CPR certification.

Responsibilities

• Regular Plant Monitoring and Equipment Maintenance: Conduct tours, ensure proper operation of pumps, aerators, clarifiers, and other equipment; monitor meters and adjust motors and valves as needed.
• Sample Collection and Testing: Collect effluent samples and perform routine tests; apply chemicals and monitor effects on plant operations.
• Cleaning and Maintenance: Skim floatables from settling tanks, clean bar screens, wash basins and manage waste.
• Plant Grounds and Facility Upkeep: Maintain plant buildings and grounds; perform minor repairs.
• Preventive Maintenance and Customer Service: Perform maintenance tasks; assist customers, answer phones and inquiries.
• Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as required by supervisor.
