Job summary

The City of Alabaster Environmental Services Department seeks a skilled Wastewater Treatment Plant Mechanic to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on wastewater equipment, pumps, and electrical systems. Responsibilities include operating heavy machinery, calibrating PLCs and instrumentation, and coordinating repairs to ensure safe, reliable plant operation.

Minimum qualifications include a H.S. diploma or GED, 1+ year in related fields, valid Alabama CDL Class B+, and Alabama Grade II

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED
At least one year of experience in wastewater plant operations, waste management, industrial maintenance, or a closely related field
Valid Alabama Commercial Driver’s License, Class B or higher
Valid Alabama Grade II Wastewater Operator Certification
Ability to maintain all required licenses and certifications throughout employment

Responsibilities

Perform preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on wastewater treatment equipment and machinery.
Diagnose, repair pumps, engines, motors, valves, and related components.
Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems; repair motors and rewire panels.
Install and upgrade mechanical and electrical equipment.
Calibrate and program PLCs, meters, and instrumentation.
Test machinery and report issues; coordinate outside repairs when needed.
Perform welding and fabrication for repairs.
Operate heavy machinery and perform routine maintenance to keep equipment safe.
