Job summary

Santa Margarita Water District is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Plant Lead Operator to oversee daily operations of the district's wastewater and recycled water facilities. This advanced role provides technical leadership, mentoring, and ensures safe, compliant performance in a 24/7 environment.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, California wastewater certifications, and progressive lead-level experience.

Qualifications

Knowledge of wastewater plant operations, recycled water systems, and process control.
Advanced troubleshooting and operational decision-making.
Ability to lead and support staff in a 24/7 operational environment.
Strong understanding of regulatory compliance and safety practices.

Responsibilities

Lead and participate in operation and monitoring of wastewater and recycled water systems.
Monitor SCADA systems, pumps, chemical feed, solids handling, filtration, and disinfection.
Analyze plant data and adjust operations for efficiency and compliance.
Provide technical guidance and training to staff and coordinate daily activities.
Troubleshoot issues, respond to alarms, emergencies, and process upsets.
Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs.
Maintain accurate logs, reports, and regulatory documentation.
Coordinate with maintenance, lab, engineering, and supervision for improvements.
