Job summary

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is seeking an Administrative Engineer to oversee operations at one or more wastewater treatment plants. Under general direction, you will supervise civil service staff, manage budgets, provide technical guidance on process operations, and coordinate with regulators, elected officials, and community groups.

• Valid New York State Professional Engineer license.
• Six (6) years of full-time engineering experience in chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, mechanical engineering, or plan examining work.
• At least two (2) years in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity.

Responsibilities

• Supervise civil service staff at one or more wastewater treatment plants to ensure regulatory compliance and safe, productive operations.
• Administer each plant's expense budget including energy, chemicals, overtime, inventory and contract services.
• Provide technical guidance on process operations and coordinate with regulatory authorities, elected officials, labor, and community groups.
• Plan and oversee daily work activities using CMMS to assure asset reliability and staff performance; handle hiring, promotion and discipline.
