Job summary

The City of Tacoma is seeking a skilled Wastewater Treatment Plant Electrician/Instrumentation Technician to join the Environment and Public Works Department. This role performs journey-level electrical and instrumentation maintenance, installation, and repair across a range of equipment, controls, and motors at the WWTP and related facilities.

Qualifications

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
Two years journey-level experience as electrician or instrumentation technician in industrial/manufacturing setting, plus two years advanced coursework in electric theory and industrial controls.
Additional experience can substitute for education at rate of three years apprenticeship or two years journey-level per year of coursework.

Responsibilities

Perform skilled journey-level electrical and instrumentation maintenance, installation, and repair of equipment, controls, motors, and instrumentation.
Develop and implement proactive maintenance programs including preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance.
Maintain and monitor equipment condition, troubleshoot PLCs and control systems, and ensure safe operation per NEC and regulatory standards.
Work with 480-volt equipment, instrumentation, HMI, SCADA systems, and motor controls; read electrical diagrams and schematics.
