Job summary

The City of Lakeland is seeking a semi-skilled worker to install, repair, and maintain water distribution and wastewater systems. Under direct supervision, you will lay mains, service lines, taps, and assist with pumping stations and related equipment, using hand tools and light machinery.

You must hold a high school diploma or GED and acquire a Class A CDL with endorsements within six months. The job requires physical effort, overtime potential, and adherence to safety standards in all weather.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must obtain Class A CDL with appropriate endorsements within six months.
• Ability to perform heavy manual tasks and operate heavy equipment safely.

Responsibilities

• Lays wastewater gravity mains, manholes, force mains, and installs related valves and fittings.
• Makes routine wastewater service extensions and taps, and installs water services and meters.
• Assists in construction and upgrading wastewater pumping stations and performs equipment maintenance.
• Operates heavy equipment such as air compressors, jackhammers, and various trucks.
• Participates in after-hours standby and overtime as needed.
