Job summary

The City of Lakeland, FL seeks a Water Meter Repairer II (or I) to repair, test, and install water meters in shop and field settings. Responsibilities include meter testing, AMI wiring, service line work, and assisting with inventory and repairs.

Position requires a high school diploma or GED and 2080 hours of meter repair experience for II, plus a Class C Water Distribution License; a Class A CDL may be required within six months of employment. Overtime may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2080 hours of experience repairing and maintaining water meters for Water Meter Repairer II.
• Must possess and maintain a Class “C” Water Distribution License.
• Special requirements include: valid telephone number and driver’s license; ability to obtain Class “A” CDL within six months; ability to obtain Class “C” Water Distribution License within 18 months; fitness and fit test requirements.

Responsibilities

• Installs, removes, and relocates residential and commercial water meters and repairs meters and registers.
• Tests meters, repairs service lines, and handles delinquent shutoffs and plumbing repairs.
• Wires, installs, and troubleshoots the AMI system; operates PCs and related devices.
• Maintains Meter Shop inventory and assists in water pressure and leak investigations.
• Performs maintenance on meters, service lines, and backflow devices; participates in training as needed.
