Job summary

Spanish Fork City is seeking a Wastewater Operator I to operate and maintain the city’s wastewater treatment plant and collection lines. Under general supervision, you will monitor gauges, record readings, and perform essential treatment and sludge processes.

You will operate and maintain equipment, handle safety and traffic control tasks, and respond to citizen requests related to wastewater. On-call availability and prompt emergency response are required.

Qualifications

• Education: High school or equivalent.
• CPR Certification: Within one year of hire date.
• Utah CDL: Class B, may be required to obtain Class A.
• Forklift Certification: Within one year of hire date.
• Flagging Certification: Within one year of hire date.
• Traffic Control Technician Certification: Within one year of hire date.
• Unrestricted Wastewater Collections or Treatment: Class I and II within two years.
• Applicant must be able to work on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week within a rotated schedule. Emergency response within 20 minutes.

Responsibilities

• Monitor gauges, meters and controls at the wastewater treatment plant and record readings.
• Oversee placement of signs and barricades for traffic control around work sites.
• Perform duties in preliminary treatment, primary sedimentation, trickling filter and ultraviolet disinfection operations; report changes.
• Maintain sludge thickening, digestion and disposal processes.
• Take plant samples as required by the Division of Water Quality.
• Operate process equipment and inspect plant processes and equipment.
• Responsible for operation and maintenance of equipment including loaders, backhoes, forklifts, pumps, blowers, etc.
• Resolve citizen requests/complaints related to wastewater in a courteous manner.
• Assist in building and grounds maintenance.
• Meet attendance and punctuality requirements and adhere to city policies.
• Be a team player and work well with others.
• On-call availability; respond to emergencies within 20 minutes.
