Job summary

The City of Winchester and its Department of Public Services seeks a Wastewater Operator to join the Opequon Water Reclamation Facility. The role supports the operation of pumps, motors, instrumentation, filters and chemical feeders.

Starting salary is based on licensure, with Operator 4 at $42,598.40 up to Lead Operator at $61,110.40. Candidates must have a HS diploma or GED; valid driver's license; and must obtain a Wastewater Operator license or equivalent within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Oversees the proper functioning of pumps, motors, instrumentation, filters and chemical feeders.
• Maintains operational parameters as specified by the Facility Manager, Chief Operator, or Shift Leader.
• Checks equipment and records data.
• Collects samples from designated points.
• Performs routine physical and chemical analyses, records results or sends samples to the lab.
• Makes adjustments to operating equipment and notifies superiors of repair needs.
• Keeps chemical systems adjusted and basins free from foreign matter.
• Performs general housekeeping duties and contributes to a positive work environment.

Starting Salary Based On Licensure

Operator 4 - $42,598.40

Operator 3 - $46,987.20

Operator 2 - $51,771.20

Operator 1 - $54,371.20

Lead Operator - $61,110.40

Earn Additional Pay with Eligible Evening, Night & Weekend Shifts

• Oversees the proper functioning of pumps, motors, instrumentation, filters and chemical feeders
• Maintains operational parameters as specified by the Facility Manager, Chief Operator, or Shift Leader
• Checks equipment and records data
• Collects samples from designated points
• Performs routine physical and chemical analyses, records results or takes samples to the lab for more extensive analysis
• Makes adjustments to operating equipment and notifies superiors of need for repair work
• Keeps chemical systems adjusted
• Keeps basins free from foreign matter
• Performs general housekeeping duties which include but are not limited to floor maintenance, washing windows, painting, mowing grass, trimming hedges, containing weeds, and cleaning equipment
• Contributes to a positive work environment

Education and/or Experience

• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

• Possession of a valid and appropriate driver’s license.
• Possession of a valid Wastewater Operators License, ability to obtain, within 6 months, equivalent license from the State of Virginia, Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation.
