Job summary

Ojai Valley Sanitary District is hiring an Operator II, III, or IV for the wastewater collection system. The role involves cleaning, maintenance, repairs, and construction of sewer lines with responsibilities ranging from journey-level to advanced journey-level tasks.

Two years of experience for each level and CWEA certification are referenced; a valid Class B CA driver’s license is required. Overtime, standby duty, and some weekend availability are expected.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain a variety of narrative and statistical reports, records and files related to duties and assigned activities.
• Coordinate activities with staff and outside organizations to exchange information and resolve issues.

WASTEWATER COLLECTION SYSTEM

OPERATOR II, III or IV

($44.41-$73.21/hour)

(Depending Upon Qualifications)

The District is seeking to fill one vacant Collection System Operator position. This position will be filled at an Operator II, III, or IV level depending on experience and qualifications.

The Ojai Valley Sanitary District (District) provides sanitary sewer service, collection & treatment, for residents of the City of Ojai and the unincorporated Ojai Valley.

This position performs cleaning, maintenance, repair, and construction of wastewater collection lines at levels ranging from a journey- level Operator to an advanced journey-level Operator performing more complex and difficult repair and maintenance activities required. An Operator III or IV may functionally lead less experienced Operators. Operators of all levels operate under the supervision of the Collection System/Treatment Plant Operations Manager. In all Operator levels, as experience and skill increase, less supervision is required to perform the more complex tasks. This position requires frequent overtime, emergency call-outs, regularly scheduled standby duty, and some weekend availability.

Candidate must have the experience, knowledge, and ability to: Perform skilled and semi-skilled advanced preventive and corrective maintenance on wastewater collection facilities including cleaning, repairs, and CCTV; Participate in construction, maintenance, and repair work involving the wastewater collection system; Operate heavy machinery to perform line cleaning, root control operations, debris removal, and disinfection operations; Provide technical information and assistance to management staff regarding assigned functions; assist in the formulation and development of policies, procedures, and programs; Prepare and maintain a variety of narrative and statistical reports, records and files related to duties and assigned activities; Communicate with other staff, personnel, and outside organizations to coordinate activities and programs, resolve issues and conflicts and exchange information.

Possession of a valid Class B California Driver’s License and a driving record acceptable to District insurance carrier. Education equivalent to completion of twelfth grade or equivalent experience.

Operator II = Two (2) years of experience performing duties comparable to those assigned to the Collection System Operator I in the construction or maintenance of wastewater collection systems and appurtenant equipment. Possession of a Grade II Wastewater Collection System Certification from California Water Environment Association (CWEA).

Operator III = Two (2) years of experience performing duties comparable to those assigned to the Collection System Operator II in the maintenance of wastewater collection systems and appurtenant equipment. Possession of a Grade III Wastewater Collection System Certification from (CWEA).

Operator IV = Two (2) years of experience performing duties comparable to those assigned to the Collection System Operator III in the maintenance of wastewater collection systems and appurtenant equipment. Possession of a Grade IV Wastewater Collection System Certification from (CWEA).
