Job summary

Dublin San Ramon Services District is recruiting for a Regular, full-time Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I-II in the Plant Operations division. The position may be filled at Operator I or II level, under supervision, performing operations, control, and maintenance tasks at wastewater facilities including DERWA and LAVWMA.

Qualifications

• Regulate influent and effluent flows within the system.

• Follow established policies and work methods; participate in safety procedures.

Job description

Dublin San Ramon Services District is recruiting to fill one (1) Regular, full-time Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I-II position in the Plant Operations division of the Operations department. This position may be filled at the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I or Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator II level.

Under direct or general supervision, learns and performs a variety of operations, control, and maintenance functions in support of the District's wastewater treatment plant, DERWA and LAVWMA facilities including SCADA, micro-filter, reverse osmosis, and ultra-violet systems; regulates influent and effluent flows within the system; demonstrates a full understanding of all applicable policies and work methods associated with assigned duties; assists with basic laboratory testing an sample collection; and performs other related duties, as assigned.

Ideal candidate

The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player who is reliable, proactive and eager to learn new skills in a technical, hands-on environment. A commitment to safety and the ability to follow established procedures are essential. They will have one or more years of experience working in a wastewater treatment plant or similar industrial setting. Possession of a California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certification Grade I or higher is desirable.

Supervision received and exercised

Receives direct supervision from the assigned supervisor. Receives functional and technical direction and training from a higher‑level Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.

Wastewater Treatment Plant I Class Spec

One (1) year of responsible work experience at a wastewater treatment plant facility working with pumps, motors, and other mechanical equipment.

Wastewater Treatment Plant II Class Spec

Two (2) years of responsible work comparable to that of a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I with the Dublin San Ramon Services District. Possession of a Class C Driver's License required by the State of California, Department of Motor Vehicles, to perform the duties of the position. Continued maintenance of said driver's license in compliance with established District vehicle operation standards, and the ability to be insured for the operation of a vehicle/District vehicle in accordance with the terms and conditions of the District's insurance program are conditions of continuing employment. The CSRMA driving standards are included herein by reference.

Wastewater Treatment Plant I

Possession and maintenance of California State Water Resources Control Board Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade I certification within eighteen (18) months of appointment.

Wastewater Treatment Plant II

Possession and maintenance of California State Water Resources Control Board Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade II certification is required upon appointment.

Additional requirements

Incumbents in this class are required to participate in the District's Shave-on-Demand policy when required to wear respiratory protection or other safety equipment.

Work overtime, weekends, holidays, and shift work as assigned.

Disaster service worker

All Dublin San Ramon Services District employees are, by State and Federal law, Disaster Service Workers. The roles and responsibilities for Disaster Service Workers are authorized by the California Emergency Services Act and are defined in the California Labor Code. In the event of a declaration of emergency, any employee of the District may be assigned to perform activities which promote the protection of public health and safety or the preservation of lives and property. Such assignments may require service at locations, times, and under conditions that are significantly different than the normal work assignments and may continue into the recovery phase of the emergency. If a “Local Emergency” is declared during the employee’s shift, employees will be expected to remain at work to respond to the emergency needs of the community. If a “Local Emergency” is declared outside of the employee’s shift, employees must make every effort to contact their direct supervisor or department head to obtain reporting instructions as Disaster Service Workers.

Selection procedure

The selection process may consist of an evaluation of the applicant's qualifications; appraisal board interview; written examination; practical exercise and/or internal department interviews; reference check and a review of prior performance evaluations. Upon completion of the selection process, an offer of employment may be conditionally based upon the successful completion of any employment verification, criminal background check and a pre‑employment medical exam.

Recruitment timeline

An appraisal board interview is tentatively scheduled on October 14, 2026. (All applicants will be notified of their status prior to the date listed above.) This date is subject to change.
