Job summary

SPSA in Virginia operates the Transfer Stations and Tire Processing Facility. The Heavy Equipment Operator safely and efficiently moves, loads, and compacts solid waste, observing instruments and surroundings while the vehicle is in motion.

This role follows spotter rules, performs daily maintenance, and monitors the waste stream for hazardous materials. Regular supervision and standard work instructions guide the work, with shifts at multiple locations as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Three years of heavy construction equipment operation experience.
• Valid driver's license and safe driving record.
• Experience as primary operator preferred; SPSA on-the-job training may reduce requirement.

Responsibilities

• Safely and efficiently operates heavy equipment to move, load, and compact solid waste.
• Performs daily preventive maintenance and safety checks.
• Monitors waste stream for hazardous materials.
• Completes station logs and related clerical tasks.
• Directs traffic and maintains safe distances between vehicles.
