Job summary

County of Chatham seeks a Solid Waste Supervisor to oversee collection and transport of solid waste and recyclables in NC. You will plan routes, assign staff, and ensure compliance with environmental regulations and safety standards.

Responsibilities include directing crews, maintaining equipment, coordinating maintenance, and preparing basic reports. A high school diploma or GED and substantial supervisory experience are required; a valid NC CDL is preferred.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of scheduling, routes, and services.
• Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• General knowledge of personal computers.
• General knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance for solid waste operations.
• Ability to train, assign, and supervise semiskilled workers.
• Ability to follow and communicate oral and written instructions.

Responsibilities

• Supervises subordinate personnel; assigns, directs, trains, and inspects the work of personnel.
• Reviews collection data to schedule hauling and coordinate special collections.
• Operates roll-off and box trucks; transports waste and recyclables to facilities.
• Maintains and updates maintenance records and repair parts inventories.
• Coordinates staff training and departmental safety trainings.
• Assists Solid Waste Manager with budget preparation and expenditure reviews.
