Job summary

The City of Myrtle Beach is seeking a Solid Waste Supervisor to lead the sanitation division’s collection, processing and hauling operations. This role supervises staff, coordinates daily activities, and ensures safety and compliance across all routes and facilities.

Responsibilities include overseeing transfer stations and scale operations, managing supplies, and resolving customer issues while maintaining high service standards for residents and businesses alike.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent; three (3) years of related experience in operating heavy-duty vehicles/heavy equipment.
• Experience operating heavy-duty vehicles/heavy equipment in solid waste or related industry preferred.
• Experience with route management systems or WasteWORKS or similar automated scalehouse systems preferred.
• Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A) with proper endorsements within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff; problems; trains; performance appraisals.
• Coordinates daily work activities; creates and distributes schedules; approves leave; monitors progress.
• Ensures compliance with codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures; enforces safety procedures.
• Oversees solid waste collection, processing and hauling; manages transfer stations and compactor sites; handles customer service issues.
• Maintains inventories; prepares purchase requisitions; manages supplies and equipment.
• Interacts with staff, other departments, the public to coordinate work and resolve problems.
