Job summary

The Gaston County Solid Waste and Recycling Division is looking for a supervisor to oversee six County Convenience/Recycling Centers and coordinate hauling of recycle and waste containers. You will liaise with vendors and staff to expand programs and manage county facilities.

You will also plan public education efforts, coordinate major events (HHW, America Recycles Day, Earth Day) with community partners, and report on grant activities and recycling markets.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or related field.
• Valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, staff, and coordinate the operation of six County Convenience/Recycling Centers.
• Coordinate hauling of recycle and waste containers with staff and vendors.
• Liaison between staff and vendors for service, repairs, and changes; coordinate recycling management for County facilities.
• Increase recyclables by implementing new programs, vendors, and markets; track market trends.
• Plan and coordinate events such as HHW, America Recycles Day, Earth Day; partner with Keep Gastonia Beautiful.
• Manage NC State partnerships including grant writing and annual reporting.
• Manage Gard Card Program; coordinate vendors, take orders, and deliver weekly; provide program information to vendors.
• Provide citizen responses via email, phone, or in-person meetings.
• Serve on state recycling associations and HHW Council committees.

Job description

Solid Waste and Recycling Division

is primarily responsible for the disposal of Municipal Solid Waste generated in the County as required by North Carolina State Law and in accordance with all applicable local regulations. Gaston County currently uses an integrated solid waste management plan consisting of sanitary landfilling, compost/mulch, recycling, and related waste reduction programs.

• Supervise, staff, and coordinate the operation of six County Convenience/Recycling Centers. Includes coordinating the hauling of recycle and waste containers.


• Liaison between convenience site staff and vendors, County staff for service, repairs, and changes. Also coordinating recycling management for County facilities.


• Increase recyclables - Implementation and management of new programs, vendors, and markets. Tracking market trends. This Includes recycling program for County residents and County employees.


• Education - public awareness, civic programming, childhood education opportunities, newspaper articles and public speaking events.


• Oversee, plan and coordinate special events - HHW, America Recycles Day, Earth Day; work as partner with Keep Gastonia Beautiful.


• NC State partnerships - grant writing and implementation, state required annual reporting (accuracy in data collection).


• Manage and coordinate Gard Card Program. Includes finding and maintaining Garb Card vendors throughout the County, taking orders, and delivering weekly, also provides program information to all vendors.


• Provide citizen response to concerns and questions via email, telephone, or In person meeting.


• Serve on Carolina's Recycling Association committees, serve on state HHW Council.

Minimum Qualifications

• Four-year degree In Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or related field.


• Valid Driver's License.
