Job summary

City of San Juan, Texas seeks a Refuse Vehicle Operator to run front end loader, side loader, or rear loader on designated routes, collecting solid waste and recyclables with limited public contact. Must have a high school diploma or GED and a valid Texas Class B CDL with a satisfactory driving record; ability to lift over 15 lbs.

Shifts may involve irregular hours and travel as needed. The position pays $17.20 per hour.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; opportunity to acquire within nine months if not possessed.
• Valid Texas Class B CDL with satisfactory driving record required.
• Some experience preferred; may be gained during 2–6 months employment in the position.
• Must be able to lift greater than 15 lbs and perform physical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Operate mechanical side loader, packer truck on designated routes to collect solid waste and recyclables.
• Drive loaded truck to landfill and dump, then return to route.
• Operate hydraulic arms to lift containers and hydraulic ramps to compact refuse.
• Perform daily street sweeping in designated areas, weather permitting.
• Identify and report improper equipment performance and make operational adjustments.
