Position Purpose:
Under general supervision, performs all necessary requirements for segregating, packaging, and labeling of medical and non-medical waste. Must ensure all medical and non-medical waste meets all pre-transport requirements prior to shipment off site, or on site incineration or proper disposal into compactor.
What you will do:
Works closely with hospital personnel to plan and execute medical and non-medical waste disposal standards set by Mount Sinai Hospital to ensure a clean and safe environment.
Prepares medical waste for off-site shipment.
Disposes of pathological waste into the incinerator according to Hospital policies.
Maintain all work areas in a neat/clean operating condition.
Maintains commitment to safety procedures of the hospital.
Working Conditions:
Ability to use power and manual cleaning equipment:
-wet/dry vacuums, manual and automatic power scrubbing machines
-stands and walks (100%)
-climbs a 3 ft./6 ft. step ladder (10%)
-turns, reaches, stoops, and crouches (40%) while performing tasks such as scrubbing, wet/dry mopping and cleaning
-pushes and pulls wet/dry mops (25%)
-lift and carries cleaning equipment (occasionally heavy items up to 50 lbs.)
- pushes and pulls wet/dry mops (10%); carts (40%)
Position requires ability to constantly lift objects more than 50 lbs., perform simple manipulative and hand-eye coordination skills; walk, stand and sit for prolonged periods; see objects closely and far away and hear normal sounds with some background noises.
Strong germicidal solutions on a daily basis, soiled linen, and bio-medical waste, handling of biologically unclean material. In the winter the incumbent shovels snow and then salts and sands outside walks as needed. Employee may constantly be exposed to blood, body tissues, fluids, dust and other hazardous materials such as chemicals and frequently exposed to loud or unpleasant noises.
Minimum Qualifications :
Able to read and write written instructions and comprehend verbal instructions in English.
1 year experience in all aspects of floor care.
Valid Connecticut Driver's License
Basic mechanical aptitude.
