Job summary

Yakima County is seeking a Solid Waste Heavy Equipment Operator to operate D-8 Dozers, compactors, and related machinery at multiple solid waste disposal sites. The role requires a Class A CDL and state-of-the-art safety practices, with emphasis on public safety and efficient site operations.

Qualifications

• High School or GED plus 6 years of equipment operation experience.
• Consent for queries of the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
• Preferred: Air brakes, tanker and hazardous waste endorsements.
• Experience in landfill construction and maintenance.
• Certification from SWANA.

Responsibilities

• Operate a D-8 Dozer for grading, excavating, backfill and pushing waste.
• Operate a refuse compactor to achieve proper waste compaction.
• Operate a wood waste grinder and other equipment.
• Perform safety inspections and monitor for hazards at the site.
• Respond to on-site emergencies and coordinate disposal as needed.
• Direct truck dumping and guide customers to appropriate areas.
