Job summary

Yakima County Public Services-Solid Waste Division is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator. The role involves operating a D-8 Dozer, refuse compactor, wood waste grinder, and other landfill equipment to manage municipal solid waste at county disposal sites.

Applicants must have a High School diploma or GED, six years of equipment operation experience, and a valid Class A CDL. The position offers overtime eligibility and a comprehensive benefits package within AFSCME 2264.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required.
• Six years of heavy equipment operation experience.
• Class A CDL required.
• Consent for FMCSA Clearinghouse.
• SWANA certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate D-8 Dozer or similar for grading, excavating, backfill and waste pushing.
• Operate refuse compactor to achieve proper waste compaction.
• Operate wood waste grinder and other landfill equipment.
• Ensure safety, comply with environmental regulations and road/landfill procedures.
• Interact with the public and coordinate waste disposal as needed.
