Job summary

Yakima County is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator for the Solid Waste Division. The role operates heavy machinery at landfill sites, ensures safe handling of waste, and helps maintain equipment and sites while complying with environmental and road safety regulations.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Six years equipment operation experience.
• Class A CDL required.

Responsibilities

• Operate a D-8 Dozer for grading, excavating, backfill and pushing waste.
• Operate a refuse compactor to achieve appropriate compaction of waste.
• Operate other equipment including front end loader, water truck, bin truck, and walking floor trailers.
• Perform visual safety inspections and maintain equipment.
• Interact with the public to ensure safety within landfill areas.
• Respond to on-site accidents, emergencies and hazardous spills.
