Job summary

Tooele County is seeking a solid waste facility operator to perform skilled equipment operation and support functions at the municipal solid waste facility. You will work on four 10-hour shifts with rotating Saturdays and some holidays, gaining experience toward promotion to Senior Solid Waste Specialist.

The role requires a valid Utah CDL within six months of hire, the ability to operate two or more types of heavy equipment, and a commitment to public service and safety in a busy operation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1 year of solid waste, landfill operations, or heavy equipment experience.
• Must be 18+ and able to obtain a Utah CDL within 6 months of hire.
• Must demonstrate ability to operate at least two of listed equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operates basic landfill equipment (skid steers, forklifts, loaders) to push, sort, compact, and transport MSW and recyclables.
• Provides direct customer service to facility users and directs safe disposal practices.
• Assists with cleaning, delivery, and maintenance of residential containers and resale items.
• Performs basic pre- and post-trip inspections and minor maintenance on equipment.
• Supports composting operations using the grinder and trommel screen as directed.
• Monitors incoming waste for prohibited or hazardous materials and follows protocols.
• Maintains cleanliness and readiness of work areas and equipment.
• Participates in training programs to expand equipment capabilities.
• Completes documentation related to inspections, safety, and daily operations.
• Performs other duties as assigned by Fleet Supervisor and Solid Waste Director.
