Job summary

Salt Lake County is hiring for a Heavy Equipment Operator to support construction, maintenance, flood control, and landfill operations. The role requires operating various heavy machines, completing routine inspections and minor repairs, and adhering to safety standards.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of closely related experience.
• Possession of a valid Class B CDL or higher within 90 days of hire; some roles may require Class A within 90 days.
• Must have a current UDOT Medical Card within 30 days of hire and forklift certification within 3 months.
• Some positions may require flagging certification within 3 months.

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of heavy equipment (bulldozers, loaders, excavators, trucks) to perform division duties.
• Perform journeyman-level maintenance, repair, and construction tasks.
• Use hand tools (picks, shovels, rakes, chainsaws) and conduct routine equipment checks.
• Follow OSHA/MUTCD safety requirements and participate in safety training.
• Train new operators and respond to emergencies.
