Job summary

City of Mesa is seeking a Solid Waste Equipment Service Assistant for the Solid Waste Department. The role covers assignment areas including barrel delivery, repair, and collection, with duties in the yard and field as needed.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently on a rotating schedule, including weekends and holidays. A valid Class D license and respirator certification are required by hire date.

Qualifications

• Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to one year of full-time employment in servicing motorized equipment, delivering supplies, and/or performing heavy manual labor.
• Must possess a valid Class D Arizona Driver's License by hire or promotion date.
• Must meet the qualifications to wear a tight-fitting respirator by passing a medical evaluation in accordance with CFR 1910.134 by hire or promotion date and must maintain certification (Barrel Delivery/Repair & Collection of Municipal Solid Waste assignment).
• A Class B Arizona Commercial Driver’s License is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist Solid Waste Equipment Operators in safety backing situations.
• Perform site checks for bin, barrel, and roll-off container placement.
• Complete daily work orders including replacement of solid waste barrels and incident cleanup.
• Document tasks on a tablet installed in the vehicle as well as on a daily worksheet.
• Work independently on a rotating schedule including weekends and holidays.
