Job summary

The City of Mesa is seeking a Solid Waste Equipment Service Assistant to support multiple assignments including Barrel Delivery/Repair & Collection of Municipal Solid Waste and Operation’s Assistance. The role involves field work, equipment operation, safety procedures, and daily documentation on a tablet and worksheets.

The ideal candidate demonstrates a positive attitude, self-motivation, and attention to detail, with willingness to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• One year or more of full-time employment in servicing motorized equipment, delivering supplies, and/or performing heavy manual labor.
• Must possess a valid Class D Arizona Driver's License by hire date.
• Ability to wear a tight-fitting respirator after a medical evaluation per CFR 1910.134 by hire date.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine tasks involved in the delivery and repair of automated barrels.
• Deliver, remove, or replace barrels in the field and repair, paint, and wash bins/barrels in the yard.
• Operate light refuse equipment to collect municipal solid waste and assist with manual collection of bulk items.
• Assist Solid Waste Equipment Operators in safety backing situations and site checks for bin, barrel, and roll-off container placement.
• Document all tasks on a tablet in the vehicle and on a daily worksheet; work independently on rotating shifts including weekends and holidays.
