Job summary

Interstate Waste Services, Inc. is seeking a Dispatcher to coordinate daily waste collection operations, serving as the hub between drivers, supervisors, and customers. The role focuses on route efficiency, driver safety, and documenting procedures for live dispatching.

The candidate should have 3+ years of dispatching experience, strong communication, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. DOT compliance and field adaptability are part of the daily responsibilities.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of Dispatching experience.
• Undergraduate degree or certificate required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to stay calm and focused under pressure.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently.
• Strong organization and time management skills.
• Commitment to workplace safety.
• Knowledge of traffic, transportation laws and regulations.
• Intermediate to excellent computer skills, including Excel.
• Defensive Driving knowledge (Smith System).
• Basic understanding of vehicle operations and limitations.
• Occasional field visits and variable hours may be required.
• Spanish language skills preferred, not required.
• Experience in waste management, transportation, or related industry.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain positive relationships with Drivers and staff.
• Ensure drivers and trucks are utilized to their full potential.
• Manage daily truck activity and driver productivity.
• Set up schedules and communicate crew sheets.
• Monitor hours and ensure DOT compliance for Drivers.
• Provide coaching and discipline as necessary.
• Ensure safety policies and regulations are followed.
• Inspect trucks and equipment for maintenance.
• Review service requests and log tickets in the system.
• Document accidents and injuries for Safety/Risk teams.
• Prepare and deliver regular reports to Senior Management.
• Handle customer service calls and route issues to drivers.
• Monitor dispatch mailbox and system for missed pickups.
• Coordinate with other sites for equipment and route optimization.
• Manage tablet inventory and uniform tablet usage.
• Provide timely service alert notifications to customers.
• Optimize driver assignments to maximize efficiency and reduce overtime.
