Job summary

North Slope Borough seeks a flexible employee to perform the collection and disposal of sewage and trash, working with the Lead Worker on water, trash and liquid waste vehicles. Responsibilities include pumping sewage, handling loads to dump, and assisting with inspections and vehicle maintenance.

Applicants must maintain immunization documentation, obtain safety and environmental certifications, and be prepared for non-traditional hours.

Qualifications

• Documentation of Diphtheria Immunization prior to employment.
• Documentation of Tetanus Immunization prior to employment.
• Documentation of Hepatitis A vaccination series with the first dose prior to employment, the second dose six months after and,
• Documentation of Hepatitis B vaccination series with the first dose prior to employment, the second dose two months after and the final dose six months after the first dose.
• Required to obtain Incident Command System (IS) 100, IS 200, IS 700 and IS 800; 53-7081-REFD
• Required to obtain CPR, AED and Basic First Aid Certifications.
• Ability to obtain site specific Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. § 265.16 within the probationary period.
• Ability to obtain Hazardous Waste and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) current certification within the probationary period.
• Ability to obtain Small Quantity Handler training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. § 273.16 within the probationary period.
• Ability to obtain site specific Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. 112.7 (f)(1)(2) and (3) within the probationary period.

Responsibilities

• Perform a combination of duties in the collection and disposal of sewage and trash.
• Work with Lead Worker on the water, trash and liquid waste vehicles.
• Pumps sewage from septic tanks to pump truck; lifts and carries liquid waste and trash from homes to collection trucks; collects trash from public sites; delivers water as directed.
• Works with Lead Worker to spread, pick up or deliver load combinations to dump.
• Assist Lead Worker with inspection, cleaning, maintenance and repair of vehicles.
• Comply with all safety rules and regulations.
• Must be polite and courteous to the public.
• Attend all required scheduled safety meetings.
• May be required to work a non-traditional work schedule to include evening, holidays and weekends.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.

Job description

Work with Lead Worker on the water, trash and liquid waste vehicles.

Pumps sewage from septic tanks to pump truck; lifts and carries liquid waste and trash from homes to collection trucks; collects trash from public sites; delivers water as directed.
