Job summary

North Slope Borough seeks a driver-waste collection worker to pump sewage from septic tanks, lift and carry liquid waste and trash from homes, and deliver water as directed. You will maintain logs, assist with vehicle maintenance and comply with safety rules in a public environment.

The role requires a High School diploma or GED (or 12 years education), one year of truck driving, and an Alaska CDL with N endorsement. Immunizations must be documented; the workplace is alcohol- and drug-free.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Maintain truck log, inspection forms, maintenance records and daily trip reports.
• Supervises loading/unloading; may perform duties of a Waste Collector.
• Inspect and clean equipment and facilities; report maintenance needs.
• Assist with inspection, cleaning, maintenance and repair of vehicles.
• Comply with safety rules; attend safety meetings.
• May work non-traditional hours including evenings, holidays, weekends.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Summary or Purpose

All Borough employees who occupy positions where federal law mandates testing shall comply with the requirements of the federal regulations and will be subject to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion return to duty and follow-up testing.

Pumps sewage from septic tanks to pump truck; lifts and carries liquid waste and trash from homes to collection trucks; collects trash from public sites; delivers water as directed.

Maintain truck log, truck inspection forms, maintenance record and daily trip reports.

Supervises loading and unloading of truck; may load or unload truck as needed, and perform the duties of a Waste Collector.

Inspects and cleans equipment and facility; reports maintenance needs and deficiencies to supervisor.

Assist with inspection, cleaning, maintenance and repair of vehicles.

Comply with all safety rules and regulations.

Must be polite and courteous to the public.

Attend all required scheduled safety meetings.

May be required to work a non-traditional work schedule to include evening, holidays and weekends.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.

Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses Required

High School graduate or G.E.D/or, a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.

Documentation of adequate Diphtheria Immunization prior to employment;

Documentation of Tetanus Immunization prior to employment;

Documentation of Hepatitis A vaccination series with the first dose prior to employment, the second dose six months after;

Documentation of Hepatitis B vaccination series with the first dose prior to employment, the second dose two months after and the final dose six months after the first dose;

One year of truck driving experience;

Valid Alaska Commercial Driver's License with N Endorsement Code (hauling liquids in bulk (tank)) that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria.
