Job summary

North Slope Borough seeks a Waste Collector/Truck Driver to pump sewage, haul water, and collect trash in accordance with federal and borough requirements.

Candidates must have at least one year of truck driving, a valid Alaska CDL with N endorsement, and immunizations. Willingness to work non-traditional hours and comply with safety standards.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Pumps sewage from septic tanks to pump truck and delivers water as directed.
• Maintains truck logs and daily trip reports.
• Supervises loading/unloading and may perform Waste Collector duties.
• Inspects and cleans equipment; reports maintenance needs.
• Complies with safety rules; attends safety meetings.
• Work schedule may include evenings, holidays and weekends.

Job description

All Borough employees who occupy positions where federal law mandates testing shall comply with the requirements of the federal regulations and will be subject to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion return to duty and follow-up testing.

Pumps sewage from septic tanks to pump truck; lifts and carries liquid waste and trash from homes to collection trucks; collects trash from public sites; delivers water as directed.

Maintain truck log, truck inspection forms, maintenance record and daily trip reports.

Supervises loading and unloading of truck; may load or unload truck as needed, and perform the duties of a Waste Collector.

Inspects and cleans equipment and facility; reports maintenance needs and deficiencies to supervisor.

Assist with inspection, cleaning, maintenance and repair of vehicles.

Comply with all safety rules and regulations.

Must be polite and courteous to the public.

Attend all required scheduled safety meetings.

May be required to work a non-traditional work schedule to include evening, holidays and weekends.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.

High School graduate or G.E.D/or, a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.

Documentation of adequate Diphtheria Immunization prior to employment;

Documentation of Tetanus Immunization prior to employment;

Documentation of Hepatitis A vaccination series with the first dose prior to employment, the second dose six months after;

Documentation of Hepatitis B vaccination series with the first dose prior to employment, the second dose two months after and the final dose six months after the first dose;

One year of truck driving experience;

Valid Alaska Commercial Driver's License with N Endorsement Code (hauling liquids in bulk (tank)) that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria.

Ability to obtain 40-Hour Hazwoper certification within the probationary period.
