Job summary

North Slope Borough in Alaska seeks a dedicated worker to support sewage, trash, and water delivery operations. You will collaborate with the Lead Worker on waste vehicles, pump sewage from septic tanks, and collect trash from public sites, delivering water as directed.

The role requires strict safety adherence, immunization documentation, and obtaining certifications such as CPR/AED, First Aid, and site-specific training within probationary periods. Evening and weekend work may be required.

Qualifications

• Immunization requirements listed prior to employment (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Hepatitis A/B).
• Safety training prerequisites including IS 100, 200, 700, 800; CPR, AED and First Aid certifications.
• RCRA, HAZWOPER, Small Quantity Handler, and SPCC training to be obtained within probationary period.

Responsibilities

• Collect trash from public sites and deliver water as directed.
• Assist Lead Worker with inspection, cleaning, maintenance and repair of vehicles.

• Attend required safety meetings; may work evenings, holidays, and weekends.
• Perform other duties as assigned; Knowledge of North Slope Borough operations and policies.

Job description

Perform a combination of duties in the collection and disposal of sewage and trash.

Work with Lead Worker on the water, trash and liquid waste vehicles.

Pumps sewage from septic tanks to pump truck; lifts and carries liquid waste and trash from homes to collection trucks; collects trash from public sites; delivers water as directed.

Works with Lead Worker to spread, pick up or deliver load combinations to dump.

Assist Lead Worker with inspection, cleaning, maintenance and repair of vehicles.

Comply with all safety rules and regulations.

Must be polite and courteous to the public.

Attend all required scheduled safety meetings.

May be required to work a non-traditional work schedule to include evening, holidays and weekends.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.

• Documentation of Diphtheria Immunization prior to employment;
• Documentation of Tetanus Immunization prior to employment;
• Documentation of Hepatitis A vaccination series with the first dose prior to employment, the second dose six months after and,
• Documentation of Hepatitis B vaccination series with the first dose prior to employment, the second dose two months after and the final dose six months after the first dose.
• Required to obtain Incident Command System (IS) 100, IS 200, IS 700 and IS 800; 53-7081-REFD
• Required to obtain CPR, AED and Basic First Aid Certifications.
• Ability to obtain site specific Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. § 265.16 within the probationary period.
• Ability to obtain Hazardous Waste and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) current certification within the probationary period.
• Ability to obtain Small Quantity Handler training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. § 273.16 within the probationary period.
• Ability to obtain site specific Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. 112.7 (f)(1)(2) and (3) within the probationary period.

Environmental Factors and Conditions

May be exposed to infectious diseases and hazardous materials;

Must keep current on immunization and vaccination requirements.
