Job summary

The Town of Lake Park is seeking a Sanitation Truck Operator Trainee in the Public Works department. Under supervision, you will assist with curbside garbage, recycling, bulk trash, and vegetation collection across sanitation equipment, gaining hands-on experience while working toward a CDL with air brakes.

Responsibilities include vehicle inspections, basic maintenance, safety compliance, and responding to resident inquiries and emergencies.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months experience driving air brake-equipped commercial vehicles and/or equipment preferred.
• Valid Florida Driver’s License required; ability to obtain Florida Class B CDL with air brakes within six months.

Responsibilities

• Assist in operating sanitation vehicles for curbside garbage, recycling, bulk trash, and vegetation collection.
• Support safe operation of trucks and equipment in loading, hauling, and disposal of waste materials.
• Perform routine inspections, cleaning, fueling, and preventive maintenance of assigned vehicles and equipment.
• Learn and apply safety rules and best practices in waste management operations.
• Respond to inquiries from residents and assist in addressing service-related concerns.
• Respond to emergency call-ins, including hurricanes and other critical events.
