Job summary

The City of Tavares is seeking a Solid Waste Equipment Operator to join the Public Works team. You will operate a range of municipal collection trucks, including automated and knuckle-boom units, on assigned routes and in accordance with safety standards.

Responsibilities include daily vehicle inspections, delivering reliable waste collection services, and supporting disaster recovery efforts when needed. Valid Florida CDL is required, with NIMS and IC training expected within specified

Qualifications

• Ability to work with unpleasant wastes and in various weather conditions.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, and emergencies.
• Ability to drive and operate all solid waste collection equipment safely.
• Comprehension of route directions and professional public interaction.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre and post trip inspections on waste collection trucks daily.
• Drive and operate solid waste collection equipment on assigned routes.
• Collect municipal solid waste, yard waste, and bulk items.
• Inspect containers for repair or replacement as needed.
• Ensure trucks are clean and sanitary inside and out.
• Maintain professional conduct while serving the public.
• Be available for disaster recovery support when required.
