Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking a dedicated Waste Collector to service customer sites across Fort Wayne, Indiana, performing curbside pickups, loading trucks, and sorting recyclables while maintaining safety and route quality.

The role requires good reading and communication, ability to follow instructions, and physical stamina to lift up to 65 pounds; a high school diploma is preferred and a valid driver’s license is not strictly required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED desired, but not required.
• 1–3 months related experience or training desired, but not required.
• Valid driver’s license preferred, but not required.
• Must meet safety-sensitive criteria per company standards.

Responsibilities

• Collect solid waste/recyclables from customer premises or curbside.
• Load solid waste into the rear/side of the collection vehicle.
• Sort recyclables and deposit materials into correct compartments.
• Assist driver in safe operation and backing up in close spaces.
• Operate truck equipment to compact materials.
• Audit vehicle equipment prior to leaving the branch.
• Identify prohibited items and notify the driver.
• Follow safety rules and company vehicle operation guidelines.
