Job summary

Meridian Waste Columbia Hauling is seeking a Driver Helper to assist the Driver on a residential route in Columbia, SC. The role involves loading waste, guiding the Driver from the ground, and keeping the vehicle clean.

The position emphasizes safety, teamwork, and customer service, with the potential for overtime and a stable 40-hour work week. Prior waste industry exposure is a plus, and a high school diploma is required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• 1-3 years of experience in a similar position.
• Experience in the Solid Waste Industry preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ride on the vehicle to assist the Driver on a designated route.
• Operate packing mechanism to lift and load waste.
• Clean waste from the packer blade and truck body on each disposal trip and clean the hopper.
• Perform complete pre- and post-operation vehicle inspections per policy.
• Interact courteously with customers, dispatchers, and others to ensure timely service.
• Monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable waste and maintain safety standards.
