Job summary

Meridian Waste in Salem, AL is seeking a Driver Helper to ride along on a residential waste collection route. You will assist the Driver with safe loading, manual lifting, and handling bags and containers to keep service moving efficiently.

Responsibilities include operating the packer mechanism with the driver, performing pre/post-trip inspections, and staying aware of safety policies while interacting courteously with customers and dispatchers on a daily basis.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma.
• 1-3 years of experience in a similar position.
• Experience in the Solid Waste Industry preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ride on the vehicle to assist the Driver while servicing customers on a designated route.
• Operate packing mechanism and various levers and handles to activate the lifting and loading mechanism.
• Clean waste from the packer blade and truck body on each disposal trip and clean hopper and truck if applicable.
• Perform complete pre- and post-operation inspection of the vehicle and report safety issues.
• Interact courteously with customers, dispatchers and others to ensure timely service.
• Monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable waste and maintain safety standards.
• Follow safety policies and perform other duties as assigned.
