Job summary

GFL Environmental is seeking a Helper in Wilmington, NC to assist drivers in collecting solid waste and recyclables from residential routes. The role involves loading materials, sorting recyclables, and supporting safe vehicle operation while maintaining route quality and cleanliness.

The position requires basic reading and communication skills, a GED or high school diploma is preferred, with a short training period and potential for growth within the company.

Qualifications

• Reading, writing and communication skills required.
• Follow instructions and perform duties under limited supervision.
• Ability to operate equipment necessary for the job.

Responsibilities

• Collect solid waste/recyclables from customer premises or curbside.
• Load waste into the collection vehicle and assist the driver.
• Sort recyclables and deposit into correct compartments.
• Assist driver in safe vehicle operation and backing up.
• Maintain route quality and assist in keeping cab and exterior clean.
• Attend safety meetings and follow PPE requirements.
