Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain the water and wastewater treatment plant to ensure safe drinking water and compliance with DHHR WV rules.
• Coordinate with Contracted Water Plant Service Providers onsite three days per week for daily routine water plant functions (meter readings, testing, potability checks).
• Handle water/wastewater plant emergencies in the absence of the Contracted Service Provider.
• May supervise an inmate Operator-in-Training and/or inmate certified operators; work with Maintenance Department and oversee an Inmate Work Crew as needed.

Job description

This position performs tasks in the safe operation and maintenance of the water and sewage treatment plant to ensure safe drinking water and the approved discharge requirements for raw sewage to meet the DHHR West Virginia Bureau of Public Health, the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, and all Local, State and Federal rules and regulations pertaining to water and wastewater plant operations. Coordinator with Contracted Water Plant Service Providers onsite three (3) days per week to provide daily routine water plant functions to include, but not limited to: daily collecting, monitoring, meter readings, and testing the water for potability and ensuring the biochemical oxygen demand level of sewage is in compliance with established rules and regulations. Handle any water and/or wastewater plant emergency that my occur in the absence of the Contracted Service Provider. May supervise an inmate Operator-in-Training and/or inmate certified operator(s). Work is performed with considerable independence in technical operation and is reviewed by a Contracted Service Provider or administrative supervisor. Upon completion of required training, will obtain certification as a Class II Water Plant Operator and a Class S Wastewater Plant operator. This position will work with the Maintenance Department and provide supervision and oversight to an Inmate Work Crew in the completion of various projects as needed. Comply with all departmental policies, institutional operating procedures, and American Correctional Association (ACA) standards in facility operations. May be required to travel for training opportunities and to work security post as part of regular duties and all other duties as assigned.
