Job summary

HDR in Washington is seeking a Washington Area Safety Manager to lead SH&E programs across field and office environments. You will implement site‑specific safety plans, assist project managers with SH&E compliance, and drive audits, JHA development, and training initiatives.

5+ years in SH&E with CIH/CSP/ASP/CHMM or equivalent, and strong knowledge of OSHA/ANSI standards are required. Strong communication, teamwork, and a culture of employee ownership are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Technical degree in Occupational Health, Safety, Industrial Hygiene or a closely related field.
• Minimum 5 years experience in Safety Health and Environment.
• Certification in SH&E fields such as CIH, CSP, ASP, CHMM, CHST, GSP, or equivalent.
• Extensive knowledge of OSHA and ANSI regulatory standards.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Display working knowledge of SH&E regulatory codes to include both federal and state standards.
• Partner with the Area Manager to establish best practices and procedures in support of SH&E requirements within an office and field environment.
• Perform other duties as needed

• Demonstrate proficiency in implementing and reviewing site‑specific safety plans and programs
• Support and assist the company’s field staff and Project/Construction Managers in SH&E requirements
• Show proficiency in SH&E auditing and inspection protocols, behavior‑based safety observation program implementation, and development and review of Job Hazard Analysis

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous SH&E work experience in construction, mining/tunneling, water infrastructure, DOT, Oil and Gas and/or A&E firm

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor or Technical degree in Occupational Health, Safety, Industrial Hygiene or a closely related field
• A minimum of 5 years experience in Safety Health and Environment field
• Certification in one or more SH&E fields such as Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP), or equivalent SH&E Project/Program Management experience
• Extensive knowledge of OSHA and ANSI regulatory standards
• Knowledge and application of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint software
• Team‑oriented with proven oral and written skills to support company SH&E policy and procedural requirements
• Acceptance of an active participant role in an employee‑owned culture is mandatory
