You will work with Quality, Manufacturing, Product Engineering, Service, and Suppliers to reduce warranty costs, improve reliability, and support APQP/PPAP processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering.
  • 5–10 years of automotive engineering experience in warranty or failure analysis.
  • Strong understanding of automotive mechanical systems.
  • Hands-on teardown and diagnostics experience.
  • Ability to read CAD drawings and GD&T.
  • Excellent documentation and reporting skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and data analysis tools.
  • Experience with OEMs or Tier-1 suppliers is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform warranty part analysis and failure investigations.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis using methodologies such as 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone/Ishikawa, FMEA, Fault Tree Analysis.
  • Analyze failed automotive components including transmissions and driveline systems.
  • Perform component teardown and diagnostic analysis to identify failure modes.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports and failure summaries for leadership.
  • Collaborate with Design Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Service teams to implement corrective actions.
  • Support continuous improvement focused on warranty reduction and reliability.

Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Warranty & Failure Analysis Engineer with strong experience in automotive systems, mechanical engineering, and failure investigation.

This role will focus on warranty failure analysis, root-cause investigation, component disposition, and corrective action support across powertrain and vehicle subsystems. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on knowledge of automotive mechanical systems, particularly transmissions, driveline systems, axles, exhaust systems, HVAC, and related components.

The engineer will collaborate closely with Quality, Manufacturing, Product Engineering, Service, and Supplier teams to identify recurring failures, improve product reliability, reduce warranty costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed warranty part analysis and failure investigations on returned field components.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis using methodologies such as:
  • 8D
  • 5 Why
  • Fishbone/Ishikawa
  • FMEA
  • Fault Tree Analysis
  • Analyze failed automotive components, including:
  • Transmission and gearbox assemblies
  • Axles and driveline systems
  • Perform component teardown and diagnostic analysis to determine failure modes and root causes.
  • Repairability assessments
  • Scrap/rework recommendations
  • Containment actions
  • Corrective action recommendations
  • Partner with Design Engineering, Supplier Quality, Manufacturing, and Service teams to develop and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD documentation, GD&T, material specifications, tolerance stack-ups, and validation/test reports.
  • Analyze warranty data and utilize warranty databases and analytics tools to identify failure trends, recurring issues, and reliability concerns.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, failure summaries, root-cause findings, and engineering recommendations for leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Participate in supplier technical reviews and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support continuous improvement activities focused on warranty reduction, product reliability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with automotive quality processes and standards, including APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, and PFMEA.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 5–10 years of automotive engineering experience, preferably in warranty analysis, failure analysis, product engineering, quality engineering, or reliability engineering.
  • Strong understanding of automotive mechanical systems and engineering fundamentals.
  • Hands‑on experience with component teardown, failure investigation, and diagnostics.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes, materials, and reliability engineering principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret CAD drawings, engineering specifications, GD&T, and test/validation reports.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root-cause problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong technical documentation and reporting capabilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and engineering data analysis tools.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with automotive OEMs or Tier-1 suppliers.
  • Familiarity with vehicle diagnostics and field data analysis.
  • Experience with automotive warranty systems and quality management tools.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or statistical analysis.
  • Experience with powertrain, transmission, driveline, axle, or related automotive systems.
  • Understanding of hybrid and electric vehicle powertrain systems is a plus.
Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands‑on automotive engineer who can independently investigate warranty failures, perform component teardowns, identify root causes, and work with cross‑functional teams to implement corrective actions.

Candidates who combine automotive mechanical engineering expertise with warranty/failure analysis and quality engineering experience will be highly preferred.
